The questions people actually ask
Do I need a hunting license or tags?
You need a Texas hunting license. That is the whole of the paperwork, it takes about five minutes online, and you can buy it before you leave home.
After that, the exotics here work differently from anything you are used to. There is no closed season, no bag limit, no possession limit, no draw and no tags, and the state puts no restriction on how you take them. That is why a kudu or a gemsbok hunt can be booked for the week that suits you rather than the week a calendar allows.
Whitetail is the exception, because whitetail is native. It needs the same license plus the state season and the tags that go with it. If you are coming for whitetail, sort that before you travel rather than at a counter in Duval County.
What does the price include?
The trophy fee on the board is the animal. Your stay is quoted with your hunt, when you plan it with the person who handles it.
Every hunt comes with a hunting guide, a fully equipped 4x4, skinning and trophy preparation, transport of trophies to the taxidermist, full accommodation with laundry service, Wi-Fi and non-alcoholic drinks. What is not included is getting here and your license.
What is the deposit, and what happens if I have to cancel?
Half up front locks your dates.
The deposit is non-refundable, but it is not lost. If life gets in the way, it moves with you to another date.
Can I hunt from the truck?
Yes. From a blind before the sun is up, safari-style off the front of the truck, or however you have always liked to hunt. That is your call, not ours.
Nobody here is going to run you through a program. Hunt hard from first light to last, or hunt for two hours and spend the afternoon at the tank with a rod.
Is there anything to do besides hunt?
A fair amount, and it matters, because the trip does not end when the animal drops on the first morning.
Catfish in the tanks: Two stocked tanks on the property. Rods are here. Wing shooting: Dove in season. Ask when you plan your hunt. The .50: There is a fifty caliber on the ranch. Ask about it. The fire: Where the day gets retold, at length, with improvements.
Can I have a drink on the ranch?
Tell us what you drink and it is on the shelf when you get here. The beer you drink at home, the wine you cannot find here, the bottle you have been meaning to try.
The one line that does not move is firearm safety. Drinking and shooting do not overlap here, and that is not negotiable.
What are the rules?
Be a good sportsman and be safe with a firearm. That is the whole list. Everything after that is yours to decide.
Can my family come along?
Yes, and plenty do. Fathers with sons, fathers with daughters, first-timers alongside people who have hunted Africa. There is room at the table and there is more than the hunt going on.
Tell us who is coming when you plan the hunt and they are part of the quote. They share the lodge and meals with the hunting party, with plenty to enjoy beyond the hunt.
Which airport should I fly into?
Corpus Christi and Laredo are both roughly an hour and a half out, and San Antonio is the bigger airport if the connection matters more than the drive.
What should I bring, and what is here?
Your rifle, your license, and clothes for the weather you find. South Texas in January is not South Texas in July, and both are worth packing for.
Every hunt includes full accommodation with laundry service, Wi-Fi and non-alcoholic drinks. Ask about meals and bar preferences when planning your trip.
If you would rather not fly with a rifle, ask when you plan your hunt and we will tell you what the options are.
What happens to my animal after the hunt?
Skinning and trophy preparation are included with every hunt, along with transport of trophies to the taxidermist.
Tell us before the hunt what you want done with the cape and the meat, and we will walk you through how it is handled, so it is settled before you leave rather than a phone call you make from home.
Anything else, just ask
Send the question with your inquiry and it gets answered by someone who has been on this ranch, not by a form letter.
