Hunting grant's gazelle here

Grant's gazelle is the big gazelle of the East African plains: sandy fawn above, white below, with a white rump patch that runs up above the tail and shows like a flag when the animal turns away. The horns are what hunters come for. On a mature buck they are long, heavily ringed and lyre-shaped, rising from the head and flaring out before the tips turn in, and they are long for the size of the animal.

Grant's are open-country animals that rely on their eyes and their legs. They do not hide in the brush the way a deer does; they stand in the open and watch, and they move off long before a careless approach gets close. In this part of South Texas that means the senderos and the openings, and the shot is usually taken from a blind or a rest off the truck at a range the hunter has had time to judge.

Judging a buck takes a moment, because horn length is easy to misread on a lean animal. Your guide will help you sort a mature buck from a young one before the rifle comes up. Bring a flat-shooting rifle and hold tight: a Grant's is not a large target. As an exotic, it needs a Texas hunting license and nothing else, with no season and no bag limit.
