Hunting corsican ram here

The Corsican is a hair sheep bred on Texas ranches with mouflon in its ancestry, and it shows. Rams run to rich reds and browns, often darker on the chest, belly and legs and lighter on the face, and they carry heavy horns that curl back past the ear and around. Color varies from ram to ram, so the one you pick may look quite different from the one beside him.

Corsicans are one of the most popular rams hunted in Texas, and for good reason: they are handsome, they are wary enough to make the hunt a real one, and a mature ram makes an excellent first trophy for a young hunter or a satisfying add-on to a bigger hunt. Trophy fees add, so a Corsican can join a plains game hunt on the same trip without changing anything else about it.

Rams are judged on the length and mass of the curl. A mature ram's horns come close to or past a full circle and stay heavy toward the tips. Your guide will help you sort him from the younger rams in the group. Hunt from a blind or off the truck, whichever you like. As an exotic in Texas, the Corsican has no season and no bag limit, and the only paperwork is a Texas hunting license.

Hunt it your way

  • Safari-style, off the front of the truck
